I am using a Verifi p5000 to output images but they have been scaled up. What is the original size of the image before scaling or what is the amount it is scaled up by?

Dear customer,
You can find these specifications at manufacturer's brochure.
Because, each scanner has a different resolution, but usually the resolution is 500dpi.
If you have another doubt, don't hesitate to contact us.

For some reason the image saved from the SDK is at 96dpi despite the reader being 500dpi
Dear customer,
You don't have to worry about that. The captured image has 508dpi in case of Verifi P5000. The fact that you see a lower number is due to the file does not have configured properties telling the DPI, so, when you try to see the DPI through another software, they use the default properties.
If you want to confirm that the DPI is realy 508dpi you can measure your finger and compare with the image size.
Best regards,
