Supported readers

I have a ComputerID (www.digitalpersona.com) reader but I haven't been able to initialize it using Griaule's GrFinger desktop Identity software. When I try to read fingerprints the message "Initializing reader" appears and nothing else happens.
I tried other units (I have a whole bunch of them in the company), the readers are working, so hardware problem is ruled out. I tried reinstaling the reader's driver and we ruled out driver problems as well. I just don't seem to get it to work.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Your sensor isn't being initialized. Did you install Integrator Gold? You must install it, and not only the UrU driver. Check the docs that come with the GrFinger package.

How can we use the Microsoft Fingerprint Reader in our own application if the DigitalPersona Password Manager driver from the Reader bundle is installing end-user application (Password Manager) which brings popup windows every time we put the finger onto the reader device?
I have not found any solution to this problem.

Read the docs: disable DPAgnt in the startup to get rid from PM.

I have not found any 'disabling' procedure in docs, but after I removed the DP customized logon software (link to dpgina.dll) and removed the DPAgnt from startup in registry. Then after reboot the fingerprint reader doesn't initilize properly (as if DP software is not installed), but if I then run the DPAgnt and kill it, then the device initializes well by your SDK.

Could you clarify the disabling procedure you use?

Read the docs again: "GrFinger - Getting Started" / "Fingerprint Reader Install Guide" / "Microsoft Fingerprint Reader (Windows XP only)"

Remove DPAgnt from startup, not the customized GINA, or your sensor will not be initialized, of course.

P.S.: It's not my SDK.

BTW, if you don't want DPPM in the logon, I think starting DPAgnt/waiting/killing DPAgnt is the only way of initializing the sensor. I didn't found any other workaround yet.

Thank you very much for reply. We have the same results of testing. In fact we were trying to work with it on Wyse terminal and found that the scanner is very dependent on processor speed (Wyse have 400Mhz only).

Also we have the answer from DigitalPersona company where they said that there is no Microsoft Fingerprint reader SDK at all, and that reader is strictly bounded to home-use-only by Microsoft. Their own SDK do not support MS Fingerprint reader at all.

How does one get Integrator Gold for the U.are.U 4000?

I believe you should have received the SDK when you bought your sensor. At least, DP sells a package containing IG+sensor. Contact your vendor about the IG if you didn't receive it in your kit.

I did not get the integrator or the SDK. I got the sensor as part of a U.are.U Personal package from CDW, an online computer parts store. They know nothing about the Integrator Gold software. Is there anywhere I can buy it our download it?

Better talking to CDW.
Check this:
http://www.digitalpersona.com/products/uauReader.php
Note the remark: "Sold with software package only".
DP has these software packages:
http://www.digitalpersona.com/products/
There's no mention of a "Personal package" product.
Finally, when you buy the DP IG SDK, you also get a sensor:
http://www.digitalpersona.com/products/dpGoldSDK.php
If you didn't receive at least one of these softwares, I think you should talk to CDW and ask for your IG copy.

You may try acquiring de fingerprint image from your reader (how to do this depends on the reader you're using and its SDK), saving it as a BMP image and processing it with GrFinger.

Hi John,

Thanks for ur Reply..

Is it so that Image capturing from biometric device is dependent on Bometric Reader and its SDK ?

GrFinger Only does Processing, Identification and Verification on Captured Image??

Again is it possible to use biometric devices authentication on Web applications. i.e. all my client machines having biometric device attached on and server does authentications.???

Waiting for quick and positive reply.
Thanx in Advance.

Well, I guess you'd have to figure a way to transfer the images from client to server (base-64 conversion, or whatever). Then, when the images get to the server, you surely can load them directly to your GrFinger (loading the RAW images).

Correct.

Correct again.

Yes, it is. Put GrFinger running on the server and make your clients send the fingerprint image to the server for authentication (how to do this depends on your fingerprint reader and its SDK).
