1) Which are the editions and the license types for GrFinger editions?
1. Single-user and Integrator licenses.
Single-user license means “pay for each single computer you install your application”. If you are planning to install your application only in a few machines, this is the ideal licensing. Quantity discounts are available. You need, for example, 10 licenses for 10 computers. However, you can uninstall GrFinger from a machine and use the license in another one without any problems.
Integrator license is runtime-free, means “pay once, deploy your application in as many computers as you want”. If you are going to install your application in many computers, internet-available web applications, or if you are going to build an installer and want it to install GrFinger embedded in your application, without bothering your customers, this is the ideal licensing. It costs US$ 8,000 and discounts may apply for special business.
2. FULL and LIGHT Editions
FULL edition can compare up to 35,000 fingerprints per second, while LIGHT compares about 100 fingerprints per second. LIGHT edition is used when your application expects a small number of enrolled fingerprints, such as 10 or 20, or want to make only 1:1 comparisons, for any number of fingerprints. It is also used when you want just to capture fingerprints, but do not want to match them.
Integrator licenses (runtime-free) are available for both FULL and LIGHT editions. Single-user licenses are available only for FULL editions.
3. Important information
There is no limit of enrolled fingerprints in any license or edition.
In any case, you don’t need to buy our licenses to develop your application or to evaluate GrFinger. For this you can use our Trial version for up to 90 days. You need to buy licenses only to deploy your application.
You must always inform in the “about” dialog box of your application that you used software copyrighted by Griaule.
You can never expose GrFinger functions or functionalities in your software; this is a violation of the license agreement. An example of such illegal use would be using GrFinger to make fingerprint recognition SDK.

- One-time price: zero
- Run-time price: US$ 185.00 for 5 licenses
- LIGHT Integrator

- Run-time price: zero
- FULL Integrator

2) How much does the license cost?
Check our pricing page: http://www.griaule.com/page/en-us/prices
3) I have downloaded GrFinger SDK from the site and I want to start developing my applications now. However, I have not purchased a license. Must I purchase one before start developing?
You do not need to buy any license to develop your application; it can be done with our Trial license, available in http://www.griaule.com/page/en-us/downloads. Note that the Trial license is valid for only 90 days.
4) What is the Trial license? Is there any technical difference between it and commercial licenses?
The Trial license is full-features but valid for only 90 days. The only difference is the “trial” banner added to the fingerprint images displayed when running with Trial license.
5) After use the Trial license for 90 days, what will happen to my GrFinger and to my developed applications?
The library (and, consequently, the applications that use it) still works normally, but using it without a commercial license will be an explicit violation of the license agreement. To use the commercial license there is no need to reinstall the SDK; you just have to properly replace the Trial license text file with the commercial one.
6) I bought the license(s) in Griaule’s web site, but I do not know how and where I download the license(s).
- Go to the page license management and log in. The accounts are created only in the purchase process. Thus, only people who have already bought Griaule software licenses have them.
- Click on the item of the menu "License request".
- Select the product to be licensed and fill in the form. The license will be issued within five business days. During this period, you'll be able to develop and deploy your software using Trial license.
- You can track all your requested licenses it in the page "License history". Click on "See" to check details about the request, and download the license, when available.
- When the license request is approved by Griaule, you'll receive an e-mail with instructions on how to download and save your license.
IMPORTANT: Since June, 18th, the license request system for GrFinger 4.2 FULL Single-User has been changed. Now you do not need to wait some hours or days to get your licenses: just request and get them.
7) When I buy a license, will Griaule send other GrFinger executables or only a key or something that enables the product? And how I install the license?
Griaule leaves available in your account only a text file (GrFingerLicenseAgreement.txt) which is your license agreement and also contains information about the licensee, license type and edition. This text file must be copied:
- To a specific folder*:
- Windows ME, 98 - C:\Windows\All Users\Application Data\Griaule\
- Windows NT 4.0 - C:\WINNT\Profiles\All Users\Application Data\Griaule\
- Windows 2003, XP, 2000 - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Griaule\
- To the application’s folder. This is the recommended location when deploying a GrFinger-based application.
* Other Windows versions or non-English Windows may have slightly different paths. As an utmost option, create the folder if it doesn't exist.
8) Is the license per computer or per fingerprint reader?
The single-user license is valid per computer. A Single-User license is valid for one computer and an Integrator license is valid for deploying GrFinger embedded in the licensed application (it means that if you want to deploy more than one, you must purchase more licenses) in as many computers as needed. And in a computer, the user can use, at once, one Crossmatch device, one Testech device, one Secugen device, up to 127 DigitalPersona devices and up to 127 Microsoft devices. (If it has all these USB ports)
9) If I have GrFinger 4.2 or 4.5 installed and licensed in a computer, will I need additional licenses to use Desktop Identity or Desktop Login?
Yes, Desktop Login and Desktop Identity are separated applications and therefore need separated licenses. In the GrFinger 4.1 version Desktop Identity and Desktop Login were part of GrFinger distribution but it is not anymore.
10) How can I check my GrFinger licensing details, such as edition, version, date or licensee?
There are three ways to do it:
- search the file “GrFingerLicenseAgreement.txt”, the license text-file. It bears the information about your GrFinger version and licensing details.
- open a sample (go to “Start”, “Programs”, “GrFinger 4.2 (or 4.5)”, “Samples”; you do not need to compile it) and click on “Version”.
- create a program that calls the methods that return the version:
- ACTIVEX – GetGrFingerVersion
- DLL – GrGetGrFingerVersion
- JAVA – Class Version, method getLicenseType()
11) What versions of GrFinger does Griaule sell?
Griaule only sells GrFinger 4.2 and 4.5. Licenses for GrFinger 4.1 or 4.0 are not commercialized anymore.
12) I have some licenses for 4.1 and I want to request them. But the login area is modified. What do I do?
For 4.1 licenses, you can use the "License Request" tool or go to http://license.griaule.com
13) I have lost my license file(s). What do I do now?
Just go to the License Management area in Griaule's website, open "License History", find the license, click on "Details" and just download it again.
